During these years his faith grew. But how does a cradle Catholic from the east coast go from losing his faith to becoming on fire for God? Well, it took an amazing woman, a curious mind, and confrontations with evil to break through to the other side.

One night in prayer, the Lord very clearly said to me: “Tom, I’m calling you to be a priest. Stop running.” So I did. In 2014, I returned to seminary.

As for our personal lives, we are expecting baby no. 2. And our lives are ordered: God, spouse, children. That’s our life. Constantly growing in prayer. Learning charity. Practicing love. It’s truly the best life.

As chaplaincy leader, I strive to be a witness to Christ and facilitate an encounter for staff and students. My 'yes' to the Lord emerged once I realized how much He has done for me and how relentless He is in pursing me!

Shortly after this transformative encounter in the Sacrament of confession, I received a phone call from Franciscan University of Steubenville. Fr. Michael Scanlan, a priest at the University had come across my application and felt that the Lord was calling me to Steubenville.

Do I have it all together? Heck no, not even close. However, the fact that the Lord, silence, and wonderful friends helped bring this to my attention, I am so grateful.

The mercy the Lord has shown to me for all the sins I have committed has turned my “heart of stone into a heart of flesh”. Though I could never make right all the wrongs I have done, He still finds me a son worth loving and a tool worth using.

I believe that my vocation was born in the midst of a very tragic moment of my life. On April 29, 2005 at 15 years of age, in Port-au-Prince Haiti, the reality of my mom being abducted and held for ransom for three days hit me like a ton of bricks.

Mother Teresa’s work with babies is what inspired me to pursue a career in nursing in which I would be working closely with babies. I knew from the moment I started nursing school that I wanted to work in maternity.

You can also choose to invite Jesus to be at the center of your life, and I firmly believe that your life will never be the same. It will be far greater than you could ever ask for or imagine!

I don't know why, but God picked me. Through a few key moments and people, He "blinded" me from my selfish and immature ways and adjusted my focus towards Him. Once He had my attention, I was all His.

I went to World Youth Day Sydney when I was 16 and it was a truly profound experience for me in growing in my love and knowledge of my faith. But when I was there, at the final night vigil, I asked God what He wanted of me. And He told me deep in my heart that He wanted me to be His priest.

Fast forward to now, I am discerning a call to the diocesan priesthood, which fills me up with peace and joy. I look forward to continuing this journey with the Lord and building an everlasting relationship. Jesus will guide us to the path of eternity, as we take a step forward and reach out to Him.
